Sigma Seven Longplay (C64)

Released by Durrell Software in 1986. Coded by Ron Jeffs, with music by Rob Hubbard.

A somewhat overlooked game that was arguably Durrell's best C64 release.

The game's plot revolves around 7 malfunctioning robot factories in deep space that require shutting down. Their AI defenses have kicked in, so it's not gonna be straightforward.

The game essentially comprises 7 levels. Each level contains 3 sub-sections:

The 1st section is a Zaxxon style shooter, and requires surviving long enough to reach the robot factory. Enemies can only destroy you head-on, not from behind.

The 2nd section involves collecting the dots, and avoiding or shooting the robots. Once 75% (ish) of the dots are cleared the screen can be exited. Some dots cannot be collected, it's essential to note the pattern these leave.

For the 3rd section you need to recreate the pattern from the previous screen. A defense shield tracks your movement and you must avoid touching it otherwise a life is lost. The buttons can only be activated when yellow.

Once cleared it's onto the next level, comprising the same 3 sub-sections, but harder. For example it's a longer distance to the robot factory, bigger patterns to memorise, and a faster defense shield!

Really enjoyed this game, it's tough but not unfair and 3 additonal lives are awarded for every completed section. Looks nice with a decent title track.
