Was Johnny Actually Going to Kill Kreese in Cobra Kai Season 3?

Here’s a scene I wanted to talk about. During the big fight at the end between Johnny and Kreese, Johnny grabs a Sai from the wall. He was ready to kill Kreese, as it seemed. Johnny had given Kreese so many chances to redeem himself, and after ruining his entire life, Johnny walked away. But once he saw Kreese sink his mits into his son, he had no mercy. Ironic, in the end, Johnny showed no mercy to the one man who taught him that mentality in the first place. I think if Robby hadn’t been there, Johnny would have stabbed Kreese. Maybe not a fatal stab, but somewhere to leave Kreese needing an ambulance to survive.
Johnny threw it down as quickly as he grabbed the weapon because he didn’t want to set a bad example for his son. He didn’t want to kill or stab Kreese in front of him. He wanted to show his son that he can be better. It was johnny’s anger at all the things Kreese had done in his life, the tough torment of his disciplinary militaristic ways as a boy, to teaching him immoral techniques of no mercy throughout his teen years, and in the end, choking him at the loss to Daniel at the All-Valley. Johnny in this moment, had his entire life adding up to how he felt, and he was ready to kill the man who was now going to do this to his son. So I don’t think it was Johnny’s moment of him wanting to kill Kreese for necessarily selfish reasons of having his life ruined by a over the top mentor, but he was willing to kill and go to jail to save his son’s future. That’s how much Johnny has changed in season 3. He’s put his selfish ways behind him, and cares more for his son, than for anything else.
This is the Johnny we’ll see going into season 4, the Johnny that will do anything for Robby’s well being, but when it comes down to saving Robby or Miguel at the same moment, who knows what he’ll choose, only time, will tell.
