We're back from our sunny holiday in Greece to find our Scottish cottage garden absolutely bursting into life! 🌸 The flowers are blooming, the veg patch is thriving, and everything's looking just right ahead of Mum’s 70th birthday celebration next week.
In this episode, we share a proper summer garden update as we get stuck back into cottage life. Adam’s hard work in the vegetable patch is really paying off — we’re now able to step outside and pick fresh lettuce, herbs, and greens for lunch. 🥬
We also rewind a couple of weeks to show how we prepared the ground, planted up the raised beds, and started our journey toward a more self-sufficient lifestyle. It’s one of the real joys of living in the Scottish countryside — growing your own food just outside your front door.
✨ In this episode:
00:00 – Intro: A peaceful start with beautiful shots of the garden in full bloom 🌸
00:42 – We're back from our holiday in Greece and can't believe how much the garden has flourished — flowers in bloom and the vegetable patch coming along nicely.
08:14 – Johnny shares a few thoughts on planning his mum’s upcoming 70th birthday garden party… but the weather forecast isn’t looking too promising.
09:17 – Benji takes us on a peaceful forest walk 🐾
11:04 – Flashback to two weeks earlier: Adam and Johnny get stuck into prepping the veg patch — turning over the soil by hand before using a rotavator to break it up and aerate it.
14:12 – Johnny checks in to see what Adam’s up to in the greenhouse, where he's getting busy sowing vegetable seeds.
18:01 – Johnny gives Adam a hand planting marigold seeds — apparently great for keeping pests away from the veg!
19:57 – Adam shares his clever tip for planting carrot seeds using pre-spaced strips, then adds some sweet peas to the mix.
22:52 – A peek at how the greenhouse seedlings are doing — basil, dill, beetroot, radish, cauliflower, cucumber and more.
24:05 – Adam installs a clever temperature-controlled window opener in the greenhouse — it opens automatically when things heat up, and closes again when it cools down 🌡️
28:06 – Adam plants some zinnias from seed — a lovely gift sent by one of our kind followers.
31:17 – We wrap up this week’s episode with Johnny picking fresh lettuce leaves straight from the garden for lunch 🥬
