This month, we bring you a tour of the legendary Hansa Tonstudio in Berlin. Thilo Schmied (http://musictours-berlin.com) shows us around the Meistersaal — referred to as ‘the big hall by the Wall’ — the room where Tony Visconti devised and captured the now-mythic three-gated-mic technique for David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’.
We also visit Studio 1, which is home to a unique SSL desk, and find out stories from this historic studio that has welcomed the likes of Depeche Mode, Brian Eno, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Iggy Pop, Pixies, U2 and Marillion.
