The picot chain cast on is a cast on you work as a knitted piece that you then pick up stitches along the edge. It makes for a dainty decorative edge.
You want to make a piece with the number of loops that is two fewer than the cast on number you want along your edge. Be sure to work pairs of rows, then work the final row to get down to one stitch on your needle.
