The '90s saw a dramatic decrease in crime across the United States. Many argued that an increase of cops on the streets was key in fighting crime. Others argue that a better economy and better access to abortion is what helped reduce crime rates. So what was it? AJ+ teamed up with The Marshall Project to track three reasons the '90s saw crime rates fall. Is it related to mass incarceration and the prison population, the broken windows theory, abortion, a decrease in poverty, lead, and or something else?
