[4K] A maze-like alley, Sujin-dong, Seongnam-si / 성남 수정구 수진동 골목길

In this video, I walked through allies in Sujeong-dong, Seongnam-si.
Sujeong-dong, which belongs to the old city center of Seongnam, has its unique place in the history of urban development in Korea along with nearby Taepyeong-dong. Seongnam is commonly known as Korea's first new town. Its history begins with the forced relocation of residents living in Seoul's unauthorized shantytown. As Seoul went through rapid development in the 1970s and 1980s, real estate prices began to skyrocket, and people who could not afford residences in Seoul naturally flocked to Seongnam, mainly because it was located in the proximity of Seoul. As many houses were built in the smallest possible area, a checkerboard-like alleyway was created. The project is heavily concentrated with attached houses, mostly built in the 1980s. Densely constructed housings like the ones shown in the video can greatly reduce construction cost, since identical houses are continuously built with a single blueprint. In Korea, this is one of the largest alleyways existing to this day since its birth after the Korean War.
As you can see from the map, this is just a small portion of countless alleyways in the area.

이번에 걸어본 곳은 성남시 수정동입니다.
옆 동네인 태평동과 함께 수정동은 골목길로 많이 알려져있습니다. 성남은 한국 최초의 신도시라고 할 수 있는데요, 요즘의 신도시처럼 아파트를 중심으로 편의시설과 근린시설이 만들어지는 계획도시와는 좀 거리가 있습니다. 성남의 원도심에 해당하는 이곳에 사람들이 많이 모여들게 된 계기는, 서울의 도심개발이 한창이던 70년대와 80년대 무허가 판자촌을 철거하면서 쫓겨나다시피한 한 시민들이 서울과 그나마 가장 가까운 성남으로 몰리면서부터입니다. 많은 사람들을 일정 지역에 수용해야 하다보니, 바둑판 같은 택지 위에 가장 빠르고 싸게 지을 수 있는 연립주택이 지어지게 되었습니다. 산을 깎아 집을 지은 것도 상대적으로 싼 토지비용때문이기도 합니다. 그러다보니 자연스레 언덕길이 많은 골목길이 형성되었습니다. 태평동과 수정동은 그래서 한국 도시개발의 역사를 간직한 곳입니다. 지도를 보면 아시겠지만 이번에 걸은 곳은 수많은 골목길 중 극히 일부입니다.
