To celebrate #handpanday, we are showcasing our newest recording project with the Isthmus Ensemble, a handpan quartet bridging the gap between handpan music and percussion ensembles.

Today we’ll be debuting the first 4 compositions on our handpan ensemble set, showing all the pieces together.

About the project:

Have you ever wondered if the handpan can fit into a percussion ensemble style performance? As handpan players and classically trained musicians, we took on this challenge. And today we are happy to share with you the results.

The Isthmus Ensemble showcases a set of handpans specifically for composition, each handpan adding their own strengths to the group. This ensemble features our E Minor 8(red rim), E Kurd 11(green rim), G Oxalis(yellow rim), and C Golden Gate(blue rim) handpans, giving us a complete G Major/E minor set of instruments to work with.

This project aims to bridge the gap between handpan music and traditional percussion ensembles, presenting the handpan as a potential chamber music instrument.

After many practice sessions, and individual time spent composing, we are now ready to share these first 4 compositions with the world. To truly capture this amazing project, we teamed up with @Hinckley Video Productions @Audio For The Arts Studio to bring you the best videos/audio possible! Special thanks to @Perennial Yoga for use of their beautiful space.
