In ancient Rome, charioteers were the superstars of their time, celebrated by emperors and adored by the masses. This documentary takes you behind the scenes of the greatest spectacle of the classical world, following the legendary rise of Scorpus, a young slave who became one of the most successful charioteers in the Circus Maximus, where over 150,000 spectators gathered to watch the high-speed, high-stakes races. Handpicked by Emperor Domitian, a passionate fan of chariot racing, Scorpus joined one of the big four factions that dominated the sport. By the age of 27, he had won over 2,000 races, but like many charioteers before him, he met a tragic fate on the racecourse. Just one year after his death, his greatest supporter, Domitian, was assassinated—marking the end of an era in the brutal and thrilling world of Roman chariot racing.
