Slab City | East Jesus | Last Free Place | California

Slab City, California, is a unique off-grid community located in the Sonoran Desert near the Salton Sea. It's known as the "Last Free Place" due to its lack of formal law enforcement and infrastructure. The area is built on concrete slabs of a former World War II Marine base, Camp Dunlap. It's a popular destination for squatters, artists, snowbirds, and those seeking an alternative lifestyle. 

There are two notable landmarks related to Jesus and faith one is Salvation Mountain, an art installation by Leonard Knight, and the other is East Jesus by Charlie Russell.  Salvation Mountain is a large-scale, folk art structure built as a tribute to God and love, while East Jesus is an experimental, sustainable art installation that encourages a world without waste.
