We held a small, casual tournament at Sword Carolina's training area May 8, 2021. Everyone had a great time and agreed that it was time to start bringing HEMA events back. We experimented with a new ruleset this year inspired by the past Raleigh Open by Triangle Sword Guild and other events. Bouts were 2 minutes of continuous fighting with a referee to keep things flowing more smoothly and cleanly. Three judges scored the bout independently, awarding 1 point for striking the limbs and 2 points for striking the head or torso. We have some things to tweak based on participant feedback, but still greatly enjoyed the format.
