Dead Darrius is the story of Birmingham's Mummified Stuffed Boy Who Sat on The Porch by Traciy Curry-Reyes. I investigate a 50-year-old small-town mystery in Enon Ridge. Is it an Alabama True Story or an Urban Myth? In this documentary, The Legend of Dead Darrius, I visit Enon Ridge," where they say, in the 1950's the mummified remains or a stuffed body of a little boy sat on a porch before finally disappearing. My question was: Is this a true story or an urban myth? The Taggarts, a prominent black family, lived in Enon Ridge in the 1950s and 1960s, and their family story was shrouded in mystery for more than five decades until my daughter, Ivy Brook, suggested I investigate the rumor. The rumor was a little boy was hit while riding his bike, and his mother was so upset that she had him preserved. Another part of the rumor was that The Taggarts had ended their son's life and hid him inside a doll. In this mystery, I use Ancestry.com's website and genealogy information to find the living descendant, Lee Taggart. I also spoke with neighbor Cleophus Riles about Dr. Ernest Taggart and the creepy doll on his front porch. It's a lesser-known legend but one that I found interesting to research. Dr. Ernest Taggart's story alone was fascinating. He was even featured in Ebony Magazine and Jet magazine decades ago.
