The J-RETRO 01 DELUXE is designed to fit directly into 'jazz' style deluxe basses, without modification to the instrument in most cases. It can be used in more standard "jazz" style basses, but the jack will need to be fitted to the side of the bass, as is the case with the deluxe style basses.
Colin Cunningham demonstrates different styles of bass parts on A Fender Jazz 5 string delux. The examples are played with passive settings first, and then with appropriate active EQ settings.
The demo set-up involves directly injecting the raw bass signal into Pro Tools on a Mac, using an East STMP-01 with EQ bypassed. This setting gives a buffered and razor flat balanced output.
