Russia - Primakov replaces Chernomyrdin

Russian acting Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov on Friday (11/09) met with leaders of the State Duma lower house factions ahead of a confirmation vote. Primakov, the foreign minister, was chosen by the Kremlin on Thursday to replace Viktor Chernomyrdin who lost two confirmation votes, and whose nomination threatened to bring down the government, had it been pursued any further by President Boris Yeltsin.
