AIR Trio was a jazz ensemble active during the 1970s and 1980s, known for their innovative and experimental approach to jazz music. The group consisted of three highly acclaimed musicians: Henry Threadgill on reeds, Fred Hopkins on bass, and Steve McCall on drums.
The trio's music was characterized by its avant-garde style, which incorporated elements of free jazz, funk, and other genres. They often eschewed traditional jazz structures in favor of more improvisational and spontaneous forms of expression.
AIR Trio released several albums during their career, including "Air Song" (1975), "Air Raid" (1976), and "Montreux Suisse Air" (1978), among others. Their music was praised for its adventurous spirit and creative energy, and they were highly influential in the development of the avant-garde jazz movement.
After the group disbanded, the individual members went on to have successful careers in their own right. Henry Threadgill in particular has been recognized as one of the most innovative and influential jazz musicians of the past several decades.
