Tanzania is close to achieving the landmark milestone of ratifying the African Disability Protocol (ADP).

Disability rights advocates from across the mainland and Zanzibar explain what ratification will mean and why we must all push to make this happen.

There are more than 80 million people with disabilities living in Africa, many of whom face specific forms of stigma and discrimination associated with traditional beliefs and superstitions. They are often marginalised and denied basic services such as education and health care, due to negative attitudes or a lack of accessible infrastructure.

Ratifying the African Disability Protocol is a crucial step in protecting the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of people with disabilities living in Africa.
