Dr. Rose Judd-Murray views each individual student as a partner in the learning process. As an assistant professor and the leader of the Nonformal & Community-Based Education program, Rose teaches her students the importance of their role as positive community influencers. She encourages her students to be involved in their communities, observe and note what changes they want to see, and then be the catalysts for that change.
Dr. Judd-Murray cares deeply about designing a welcoming learning environment for her students. Her friendly and open-minded demeanor encourages students to realize that they are a valued part of the class. Class time often includes peer-based discussions, group activities, and other opportunities for connection. Trust is built by fostering learning spaces where the process of doing—trying, failing, revising, reflecting—is the marker for success, rather than just achieving a letter grade.
The confidence Rose has in her students is evident to all who work with her. She will do almost anything to help her students succeed. Under her leadership, students put forth their best effort because she has high expectations and has created a learning environment where students can meet those expectations. She inspires her students to work harder and dream larger than they ever thought possible.
It is clear that student success is at the heart of everything she does, and for that, we are pleased to recognize Dr. Rose Judd-Murray as the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences’ 2023 Early Career Teacher of the Year.
