Bishop Erik Varden OCSO delivers a thought-provoking opening address at the Royal Priesthood conference, organised by the School of Theology, St Mary’s University, London, and The Aquinas Center for Theological Renewal, Ave Maria University, Florida.

Drawing on the insights of Saint Ephraim the Syrian, the Book of Exodus and the New Testament, Bishop Varden explores the priestly character of human existence, Eden as a sanctuary, and the restoration of mankind’s original dignity. He reflects on how our mission is to move from unseeing adoration to vision, culminating in our ultimate call to worship and holiness.

Through the imagery of Aaron’s priestly garments, the Ark of the Covenant and the eschatological vision of the New Jerusalem, this address invites us to rediscover the joy of the priestly vocation and the renewal of the Church today.
