The 51.38-km Bairabi–Sairang broad gauge railway line in Mizoram has been completed, linking the state capital Aizawl to the national rail network for the first time. Part of Indian Railways’ mission to connect all northeastern state capitals, the line traverses dense forests, deep gorges, and hilly terrain. Built at a cost of ₹8,000 crore, it includes 48 tunnels and 142 bridges, showcasing remarkable engineering. Once operational, it will reduce travel time between Silchar and Aizawl to just three hours and is expected to boost tourism, trade, and economic growth in the region.
