The “Pool of Siloam” is a rock-cut pool located at the southern end of the City of David (Biblical Jerusalem). The water in the pool comes from the Gihon Spring via a 533 meter-long tunnel, known also at Hezekiah's Tunnel. The Pool of Siloam was built in the First Temple period around 2,700 years ago, during the reign of King Hezekiah, as a major part of the water system for the ancient city of Jerusalem.
In the 5th century, a pool was constructed at the end of the Siloam Tunnel, at the behest of the Empress of the Byzantine Empire, Aelia Eudocia. This pool survives to the present day, surrounded on all sides by a high stone wall with an arched entrance to Hezekiah's Tunnel.
