Trying to Find the Woman Who Changed my Life | Ep 36

After 7 years Im finally getting the chance to go back to the place that changed my life. In 2015 I made the decision to serve as a voluntary missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It was a decision that would change my life forever. Apart from amazing spiritual experiences I got see first had.. It was also brought more secular teachings and experiences as well. I was lucky enough to spend the 2 years of service in the incredible country of Mexico. Most of what I will share in this video and the following video touches on how the people in this country began to shape and build me.

Im not talking about just Mormons here either. I'm referring to the Mexican people as a whole! The first area I was sent to was a small fishing village in Oaxaca called San Fransisco Del Mar. In this video I finally arrive there and began the nerve racking process to begin searching for the people who I had the opportunity to know many years ago.

First and foremost a Woman named "Hermana Francesca".... Apart from literally the amazing woman who gave birth to me my biological mother. Hermana Francesca has been one of the most influential people in my life.

As a young naive 18 year old missionary in a foreign country the mission to this day has been one of the hardest things I've ever done. The only Spanish I knew going in was just all the swear words that I was taught by my hispanic friends growing up haha. Nothing useful in my current situation, but with big desires and obviously lots of necessity to learn I started the first major task of learning Spanish.

Hermana Francesca was a widowed member of the church in San Francisco Del Mar. She had many and I mean many trials and hardships. It was here that I quickly was slapped in the face to the reality of just how truly easy my life had been to that point. Everything is relative, but it was here that I was getting true perspective of what the harsh reality of this world is for many people. From poverty, dirt floors, abusive relationships, addiction, death, the lowest levels of living conditions you could imagine, I was seeing it all.

However despite all these things I found people that were happy, people that could laugh your ear off. People that would give when they didn't have anything to give. People who took me in and taught me lessons I'll never forget.

In the next episode ill go into more detail about Hermana Francesca... In this video the goal was just to search for her and try and find her.

Everyone else like bishops, pastors, preachers, rabbis, prophets are just people here to help along the way... Including Hermana Francesca... A beautiful example of a christlike person, but not free from sin and mistakes. Like the scriptures say Psalms 118:8 "It is better to trust in the lord than to put confidence in man."
