"Mega Man DOS Remake" is a new upcoming Mega Man fangame. The demo just came out, and it contains 3 stages, each from the first DOS game (there are two games, MM1 DOS and MM3 DOS, and as far as I'm aware they're going to do it the only logical way - making one NES style game that includes both MM1 DOS and MM3 DOS).
You can download the game and get some info about it here (just delete an empty space between "htt" and "ps") :

It looks very good, promising. Let's hope the rest of the game is going to be on the same level. Of course one thing goes without saying - yes it is good but it's not perfect and I naturally assume the existing content will improve in the time, as the game progresses.
Overall I like the execution, ideas for the enemies and how they work, sprites, tilesets, that's all very good or great. These things are pretty much exactly how I would imagine them in a NES/FC adaptation of MM DOS games. Therefore, I can say that the game succeeds in its main goal: doing a faithful DOS adaptation, keeping all the main keys from the original games, all the weird enemies, obstacles etc, and at the same time giving it that NES 8bit feeling that we all like and love.
Good stuff:
-placing the dog from the intro stage which, of course, is getting removed, before the boss gates in Robot Master stages, like Big Eye in MM1, is a great idea
-MM's mugahot they used in Stage select is just perfect
-omitting slide and charge was the right move, because none of the two original games had it
Some stuff that I think could be improved:
-I don't know what it is exactly about Mega Man's phyiscs, but I just got a feeling that something is off. It does feel fine, you can run, jump, shoot and all that, but it somehow feels "almost spot on", like there's something missing. I'm trying to figure out what it is exactly, but it's not easy to catch. I think it might be something about Mega Man's jumping, he jumps too slow or too fast. However, it might be just a feeling, Idk... I'll have to test it more to find out.
-there are those Robot Masters that use the names that already exist in Classic series, such as Wave Man or Torch Man. But I wish they still somehow kept the names instead of changing them, for example by adding "DOS" to their names which would distinguish them from the Classic ones, like Dostorch Man, or Torchdos Man. Or some other option that would enable keeping the names
-in Volt Man's stage the background is not distinguishable from the actual surface that you can stand on
-I wish they tried to make the game as similar to official as possible, because there are always those small details that are giveaway and that separate fangames from the official ones. This time it's the energy recharge drops that, upon dropping, bounce from the floor a few times, instead of straight falling on the floor. Also, the damage sounds are mixed: the enemies' damage sound is from MM1-2 9-10, while Mega Man's damage sound is from MM3-6. Although I assume that might be mixed to honor both MM1-2 that MM DOS 1 is based on and MM3 that DOS 3 is based on. However I would prefer MM 1-2 9-10's damage sounds since the game is mostly based on first two games (hence it doesn't have slide or charge). And lastly, the stage enemies flash when they're hit, while that works differently in the official games
-the bosses are all predictable, I mean their AI is completely predictable. Of course every game has to have a portion of predictable bosses because they're usually easy and there need to be some easy bosses and not all the hard ones, but I hope it'll get balanced in the final version
All in all, it definitely has a potential.
