Duke Divinity School's 89th Opening Convocation Service begins 11:25 a.m. on Aug. 25. The hour-long convocation service, which is highlighted by an academic procession of the faculty and selected senior administrative staff, also includes a blessing of new faculty and staff, and a welcoming to the entering class of students.
Ellen F. Davis, interim dean and the Amos Ragan Kearns Distinguished Professor of Bible and Practical Theology at the Divinity School, will preach at the convocation service. Her homily, “Perfect Love,” will be based on Biblical scripture from Deuteronomy 6:4–13 and Matthew 22:37–40.
