Last week the Maui Housing and Land Use Committee held public testimony on Maui's Bill 9 which is the highly controversial vacation rental phase out bill. Overflow crowds turned out to support or oppose the proposed phase out more than 6000 short term rental condos on Maui that have legally operated in apartment zoning for decades.
And it's not over yet. More than 180 people signed up to testify and when the meeting ended around 4:30pm only 52 had a chance to speak. So we still have to wait a while before we see how the council will vote. They will continue the public testimony next Wednesday June 18th starting at 9 am Hawaii Time.
