Benign prostatic enlargement represents real growth with multiplication of cells. Therefore, BPE is not some kind of swelling and can't be massaged away. It is impossible to make the gland shrink by prostate massage. Additionally, the prostate is only one of many reasons for lower urinary tract symtoms (LUTS). It is commonly believed that an enlarged prostate always causes obstructive problems. Which is not true. We know today that a number of different reasons other than the prostate exist. One common reason is an overactive pelvic floor. This is a muscular problem and has nothing to do with the prostate. Focused low intensity shockwave therapy (ESWT) is an effective treatment in these cases.
