Biking to Work - Mon. Dec. 1 2025 7:57am

Crisp, cold, but dry ride to work. It snowed a little overnight, but not enough to really accumulate. There was a bit of ice here and there but nothing to create a hazard.

Plenty of cyclists out there still, including a little kid with their parent.

Ran into a little trouble on University Avenue (car traffic was light, as usual) by the U.S. Consulate where the bike lane and the parking lane aren't separated. People often park in the bike lane, not realizing that the double lanes are meant to be their parking lane, but this morning someone was parked in the bike lane and someone else was parked next to them in the parking lane. I don't know who was there first, but thankfully the driver of the car in the bike lane was there. Unfortunately, he didn't seem to know how to back up. He started reversing straight towards myself and the other cyclist instead of turning his wheel to back into the parking lane.

It's fine, whatever. I got out of the way and went around him.

Then, at the bottom of University, approaching front, I stopped to let a big truck go by, and then stopped again to let a subaru go by as well before moving over to the lanes to join York Street. I wish the city would fix this situation.
