Noșlac is a commune located in Alba County, within the historical region of Transylvania, Romania. It comprises six villages: Noșlac, Căptălan, Copand, Găbud, Stâna de Mureș, and Valea Ciuciului .
Geography
Situated on the Transylvanian Plateau, Noșlac lies on the left bank of the Mureș River, near the confluence with the Fărău River. It is positioned in the northeastern part of Alba County, bordering Cluj and Mureș counties, approximately 8 km east of Ocna Mureș and about 56 km north of Alba Iulia, the county seat .
History and Archaeology
Archaeological excavations in Noșlac have uncovered significant historical artifacts. Notably, a cemetery from the Avar era (7th–11th centuries AD) was discovered, with over 124 graves unearthed during investigations beginning in the 1960s. These findings provide valuable insights into the early medieval period in the Middle Danube Basin .
Cultural Heritage
Noșlac is home to several historic wooden churches, reflecting the region's rich religious and architectural traditions. The Wooden Church of Lunca Mureșului, located approximately 3.5 km northwest of Noșlac, is a notable example .
