This build starts with a premade blade blank and focuses on the work that follows — shaping, fitting, detailing, and finishing everything that turns it into a usable tool.
This was one of the earliest projects to come out of my shop. Some aspects of the build are rough, especially the leather work, but they still do the job. My leathercraft skills have come a long way since then, and I think that contrast is part of what makes this project worth sharing.
The leather stamp, in particular, deserves a mention. I carved it from a scrap of wood, and while it’s quite terrible, I still love it. It’s a reminder of why I build things in the first place: learn, build, refine, repeat.
As always, I'm happy to answer any questions in the comments. Enjoy.
