Cutting Down the Christmas Tree, A Christmas Tradition We Found Again-2025

For years, cutting down our own Christmas tree was something we talked about doing again but never quite got around to it. It was easier to just go to the store and grab one. Life was busy, schedules were full, and traditions slowly shifted. This year felt different. Maybe it’s because time has a way of nudging you, reminding you to slow down and say yes to moments that matter.

Now that our son is 17, he’s tall enough, strong enough, and most importantly, excited enough to truly help. His girlfriend joined us too, turning the outing into something even more special. It wasn’t just a family errand; it felt like a shared experience, one of those simple milestones you don’t realize you’ll treasure until you’re standing in the middle of it.

We headed to Hollis Hills Tree Farm, and almost immediately it felt like we had stepped into a snow globe. Snowflakes fell softly around us, blanketing the trees and quieting the world in that peaceful way only snow can. The air was crisp, our breath visible as we wandered through rows of evergreens, laughing, pointing, debating which tree was the tree.

When we finally chose it, there was something deeply satisfying about watching my son help cut it down - confident, capable, and proud. Seeing him in that moment, with his girlfriend right beside him, made me realize how much had changed and how good that change felt. Years ago, this tradition was about us doing everything. This time, it was about doing it together.

Walking back with the tree, hands cold but hearts full, I felt a quiet kind of joy. The kind that doesn’t need to be loud or flashy. Just present.

Bringing that tree home meant more than decorating our living room - it meant reclaiming a tradition, making new memories, and embracing the season in its simplest, most beautiful form. After years of not doing it, cutting down our Christmas tree reminded me that sometimes the best moments are the ones you decide to bring back. 🎄❄️
