Milan, ITALY - 1998 European Figure Skating Championships, Ladies' Free Skate - Tanja Szewczenko of Germany, who has been skating brilliantly all season long, had a slightly sub-par performance here, possibly from the pressures of knowing that she was on the verge of winning the European title. Instead, she would place 3rd in the Free Skate. Add that to the 1st Placement in the Short Program, and her Factored Placement total would be 3.5, which would tie her with Russia's Maria Butyrskaya and Irina Slutskaya. The tiebreaker would then be the placement in the Free Skate. Since she placed 3rd, she would drop from 1st to 3rd Place overall.
