A Closer Look at Two-Phase Liquid Cooling
The rise of AI is boosting adoption of liquid cooling to support powerful new GPU hardware. But what will liquid cooling look like in a high-density data center environment. We’ll show you today with a demo of a two-phase, direct-to-chip liquid cooling system.
At Data Center World we met with Rich Bonner, CTO of Accelsius, a specialist in two-phase liquid cooling, which uses coolant with a low boiling point to remove heat from chips. Rich demonstrates how two-phase liquid cooling works in the Accelsius implementation, including the chip interface, management software, full server chassis implementation, and the coolant distribution system (CDU).
Here's an overview of the demo video:
00:00 - Close-up of working two-phase liquid cooling unit
01:00 - Overview: AI and the rise of liquid cooling
01:40 - Rich Bonner demonstrates the Accelsius system
03:40 - A look at a server chassis outfitted for 2-phase cooling
04:10 - What a coolant distribution unit (CDU) is, and how it works in the Accelsisu implementation.
At Data Center Richness we demystify technology and explain why data centers matter, and what comes next for the Internet, cloud computing and AI. Host Rich Miller is a journalist and analyst who has been covering the data center sector for 25 years.
