On the evening of July 1, 2016, Roberta Smargiassi was heading to her mother’s house. At that time, she was 33 years old. She had been handling her business all Friday and was planning to visit her relatives to share some good news. Roberta wanted to prepare a festive dinner to gather all her relatives later. She was excited and hurried to reach her parents’ house as soon as possible, using her scooter. Before leaving, Roberta called her mother to say she would be arriving soon. Unfortunately, she was not destined to reach her loved ones.

Roberta was riding her scooter along the road when she moved through the green light. In the other lane, a young man named Italo D'Elisa was driving a Fiat Punto. He was only 21 years old. Despite the fact that the traffic light was red for him, he ignored it and continued driving. He did not notice the scooter that Roberta was riding, a collision occurred. After the impact, she crashed into the traffic light and fell onto the asphalt. The impact was quite strong, and she was thrown onto the sidewalk. Roberta sustained very serious injuries. Italo was confused but did not run away from the scene, he tried to provide first aid to Roberta. Witnesses immediately called the emergency services.
