Four days of incredible sights and times, from sun up to sun down to see the wild horses. The footage is gathered from a trip to SE Oregon in March of 2014 - I long debated with myself about publishing it since the camera sensor has some damage and all the clips have spots on them, but finally decided it was better to show the horses regardless of the spot/rain damage. I am not a videographer... All clips were made from a handheld pocket camera, please excuse the lack of "polish".
We recently lost iconic mares Mirage, and Charm and it was bitter-sweet seeing them in this video... so this little film is with them in mind. I also left some of our comments randomly through the film, and you can also see the friends who put up with me and travel to roam wild along with me in the high desert wilderness. My wonderful photo friends, Alice McCammon, and Terry W Smith. We travel out there together a lot.
This video and music choice is also with my late Father in mind- he passed away last fall, and after this trip, he spent much time at the table looking at thousands of my photos and video clips of this trip- and so this video is also dedicated and in memory of my dad. The music "Now We are Free" by Lisa Gerrard and Hans Zimmer is very haunting for me. I stumbled across it one day, and it was a very familiar nostalgic stunned moment as I listened to this piece with tears welling up in my eyes- I can't put my finger on it, but I believe I must have heard it as a very young child perhaps... it is unusually recognizable deep down, and it makes me feel very nostalgic, and of course makes me think of my dad. The title of this song inspired, along with the mustangs... the title of this video- it means much to me on so many levels.

About the trip: We saw new babies, and bands of mustangs I've never seen in the herd management area's outback. Found a horse mecca hidden with a nice sized waterhole we didn't previously know about.
Found a mustang with a natural 'z' on this hip, which made us think of the names Zorro and Zeus. Alice McCammon, Terry Smith and I chose Zeus. Besides Steens, we also went to the Kigers HMA. We'd seen 50+ head of Kigers (second half of video).
From fighting stallions to tender moments between horses, and babies on wobbly legs. Our eyes and hearts filled to the rim.
We encountered all weather elements-- sun, rain, snow, cold, heat, harsh winds which shook our cameras, gave us goosebumps, and blew our hats off. We hiked for countless muscle screaming miles. We saw distant wild bands, which we only prayed would not run away before we got there. We stalked Copperhead, and as predicted, didn't tolerate us 'two-leggeds', but managed to get him on a hill top before he literally disappeared from view, toward the snow-capped mountain and the full moon. Traversed cliffs, had a bobcat sighting, and a huge dust storm. It was an amazing trip. Sun up to sun down.
This trip was enjoyed with good friends, Alice McCammon- find her on fb at Pony's Wild West Images, and Terry Smith- you can find his fb page at Terry W. Smith "Images On The Outside".
This video is not for sale. It is for awareness and educational purposes only about our American wild mustangs.
