Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1000B and Federal Signal 2001 130 siren test Lee’s Summit, MO

For the makeup test for August of 2025 I went over to the Thunderbolt located by the Longview College campus in Western Lee Summit, Missouri to see how it was doing since it hasn’t been recorded in about three years. Upon arrival, I noticed a freshly installed 2001 130 in close proximity to where the Thunderbolt sits. I originally thought that the Thunderbolt was awaiting removal, but after confirming that the power meter was still in place, and the switch was still up, I figured the Thunderbolt was still active. I didn’t realize the 2001 130 that’s replacing the Thunderbolt was already operational during the test, so I actually got to hear both of them running at the same time. In terms of loudness and sound output, the Thunderbolt obviously wins beating its replacement in those categories. It’s not often you get to hear two tornado sirens side by side run at the same time.

It stinks to see the Thunderbolt go, but I might have just potentially recorded the last time it gets tested. I do think the Thunderbolt might actually belong to the college campus due to hearing Lee’s Summit’s distant 2001s before the test and since it’s located inside of the fence that’s on their property but I’m not 100% sure.

I recorded this whole video and took the pictures at the end with my new IPhone 16 Pro. I think it all turned out pretty good using it.
