The San Giorgio-class amphibious transport dock has been the pride of the Italian Navy since the late 1980s. Three ships were built—San Giorgio, San Marco, and San Giusto—each over 130 meters long with a displacement of around 8,000 tons. Inside, they feature spacious decks for tanks, armored vehicles, and trucks, along with a well deck for landing craft and a flight deck for helicopters. This combination makes them a “mobile sea bridge” capable of deploying marines quickly. Beyond military operations, these ships are often used in humanitarian missions, such as evacuations and disaster relief. Continuously modernized over time, the San Giorgio class remains a symbol of Italy’s flexibility and power projection at sea.
