Artist Profile -
Venkatasubramaniam is the 2nd son of Kamalanarayani Ramachanda Vathular, later & popolarly called as Mahakavi Oothukkadu Venkatasubbaiyer. Selvi Alamelu and Dr. Subbaraman are the principle disciples of Needamangalam Sri Krishnamurthy Bagahvathar who was the descendant (6th generation) of Oothukkadu Venkaasubbiar. Needamangalam Sri Krishnamurthy Baghavathar was the only person who brought out the great works of venkatakavi and was hugely responsible for popularizing the Kritis of Oothukkadu Venkatakavi. After Sri Krishnamurthy Baghavathar attained Lord feet, in 1983, Selvi Alamelu and Dr. Subbaraman have been performing religious discourses. Ninety years ago, Panduranga Bakthi was spread in Chennai by Sri Kothandarama Swamigal. He was the headmaster Hindu High School and later on became the managerial head in Chennai high Court. After relinquishing them, he was the one who first established Panduranga Temple in Chennai at Triplicane. Selvi. Alamelu and Dr. Subbaraman are the grandchildren of this great soul. Born with the great lineage and the blessings of Needamangalam Bhagavathar and Acharyals, Selvi alamelu and Sr. Subbaraman have been rendering religious discourses mainly focusing on Oothukkadu Venkatakavi's works. They render the authentic version of the very famous 'Kaalinga Nardhanam', one of the greatest episodes of Krishna Avatar. Theya also perform Harikatha Recitals on Ramayanam, Bhagavatham, Bharatham, Skandam, Devi Bhagavatham, Baktha Vijayam and unique style of Radha Kalyanam following the Oothukkadu Panthathi. Selvi. Alamelu and Dr. Subbaraman have been named as Aasthana Vidwans of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. Selvi alamelu. Has been honored with titles such as 'Bala Meera', 'Kokila Vani' and 'Ghathra Sangeetha Vidushi'. Dr. Subbaraman was honored with the tiles 'Dharma Prachara Upansayasa Chakravarthy' and 'Sollin Selvan'. Both of them have traveled widely to different parts of India and other countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, London, Dubai, Sri Lanka and performed religious discourses. They also performed in various Television series of Vijay TV (Bhakthi Thiruvizha), Podhigai TV, Makkal TV (Chennaiyil Thiruvaiyaru) and many programs in All Inida Radio(AIR). They are conducting annual festival Aradhana of Oothukadu Venkatakavi and Needamangalam Krishnamurthy Bhagavathar. Selvi. Alamelu has about 100 disciples, regularly conducting classes in many parts of Chennai. Selvi. Alamelu is a qualified MA in Music and Subbaraman is a Doctorate.
