This video features an in-depth interview with Mr. Subhas Sudhar Raj, CEO of the World Action Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting one of the most marginalized communities in South Asia, the Indian Tamils living in Sri Lanka’s Central Province.
Over 200 years ago, during British colonial rule, Indian Tamils were brought to Sri Lanka to work on tea plantations. While many Indian-origin communities taken to other parts of the world were eventually able to improve their living conditions, this community remains severely disadvantaged to this day.
In this interview, Mr. Subhas shares his background, the origins of World Action Foundation, and the harsh realities faced by Indian Tamils in Sri Lanka, including lack of access to proper food, education, land ownership, government benefits, and even basic burial rights. Generations later, the struggle continues with little recognition or support.
He also discusses the foundation’s mission and long-term vision to restore dignity, opportunity, and sustainable support to these communities, and why global awareness is critical for meaningful change.
This conversation sheds light on a chapter of history that is often overlooked and a humanitarian crisis that is still unfolding.
