I load the knife, work from one side toward the middle, and read the surface as I go. The goal on the first coat isn’t perfection — it’s establishing the surface plane so the next coats go fast and clean.
This patch was part of a full repair, and this step sets up everything that comes after: second coat, texture, and paint.
