I install an old Seagate SATA hard disk into a UL-Tech CCTV-4C-4B-BK Security Camera D.V.R unit that was supplied with no hard disk.
The CCTV-4C-4B-BK comes with the SATA power and data cables installed by the manufacturer, so it is a simple job of plugging in, securing, and formatting the drive to enable internal recording capabilities.
No firmware or software updates required, this is almost as simple as plug-&-play, except you just need a Philips screwdriver and some heavy duty double sided tape.
This is a safe and simple job, and a perfect solution to upgrade a non-recording unit into a fully featured DVR by recycling an old SATA Hard Drive.
Whilst I only use a 160GB drive, these units will support drives of multiple terabytes.
WARNING!
Be sure to check and backup any files on your recycled hard drive before attempting this upgrade. Formatting will permanently erase all data !
