How-To: Doc Brown Kids Costume DIY (No Sewing Required!)

Materials:
Cardboard
Silver wrapping paper
Black paper
Black felt (2 sheets 9x12 inches each)
Yellow felt (1 sheet 9x12 inches)
Pipe cleaners (4 silver, 2 red)
Black string
Black marker
Gold marker that writes on dark paper
Ruler
Hot glue gun and sticks
Packing tape
Double sided tape
Utility knife
Scissors

How to:

1. For the remote control: Cut cardboard pieces to make a box and use packing tape to hold it together. Cover the whole thing with silver paper. Cut two black circles and tape to the middle of the box. Cut a small cardboard rectangle and cover it with black paper. Use a gold marker to draw “88.0” for the speed on it. Hot glue to the top left of the box. Cut two short pieces of silver pipe cleaners and bend one end up. Cut a slit in the center of each black circle and push the pipe cleaners, bent end in to make the controllers. Cut a small slit in the top center of the box and insert a silver pipe cleaner for the antenna. Cut 2 red and 2 silver pipe cleaners for the “wires” and hot glue to the back of the “88.0” piece. Make a small slit in the box and bend the pipe cleaners and push into the slit.

2. For the belt: Cut strips of black felt and hot glue together to make the length needed to wrap around the waist. Cut a yellow rectangle and fold back the top edge and glue so that it’s wide enough to fit the belt through. Fold up the bottom edge 2/3 way up to make a pocket and glue the sides. Loop through belt to make a tool belt and attach around the waist with a safety pin or double sided fabric tape.

3. For the biohazard symbol: Cut the biohazard symbol from black felt and attach to the back of the polo with double sided fabric tape.

4. For the stopwatch: Cut a string long enough to wear around the neck to the chest and knot the ends together. Cut a rectangle from black felt and hot glue the knotted end of the string to the middle of the felt. Fold the felt together and hot glue.
