Our story:

6 years ago in 2013 when I first arrived in Paris to pursue my master degree, we met through friends. We used to only hang out in large groups never individually, until months later he asked me out to get a drink, just the two of us. Things moved from there, in early 2014 he gave me a French bulldog which we named Cookie and we were together officially. It wasn't the rosiest path for the both of us. We came from very different backgrounds, we don't even really speak the same language. He speaks French and Chinese whilst I speak English and Chinese, but Chinese isn't my strongest language. Proud to say my Chinese has improved tremendously though after being together for 5 years, however wouldn't say his English did haha. None of his friends thought we would made it together since we are so different. All of my friends were kind of puzzled how we even got together in the first place. His family is very traditional and was against me because I grew up in a more westernized family and isn't the kind of traditional daughter-in-law they were expecting. My family just thought it would be tough for us. Being together meant I had to stay in Paris, away from my family and my friends, in a French-speaking country which was a huge and difficult decision for me. Honestly, it was tons of ups and downs, and both of us made sacrifices to adapt to each other's lifestyle. We are very happy that we finally made it and proved everyone wrong, that love can truly conquer all! There is no proposal actually, we just sat around one day and thought ok maybe we should get married because we want to build a life together! It's the most unromantic thing ever, but it's the realness and strength of the relationship that made me felt safer than ever. I know that he will be by my side no matter what kind of hardship we have to face, and I could never be this sure with any other guys, and that to me is the most romantic thing ever.
