Welcome to Scheeza, a sandy planet soaked by blood of warring clans, pockmarked by explosions and litter with the remains of soldiers, buildings and vehicles. It holds a tiny bit of water, some rare vegetation and one big secret below its dunes. It is also the setting for the story of Shrot, the upcoming indie base building RTS which has a demo on Steam.

Shrot is a bite-sized old-school action RTS set on a sandy planet with horses, tractors and techno music. The game draws inspiration from Paranoia, a Czech remake of Dune 2 and the third real-time strategy game ever made, released only in the Czech Republic in 1995.

in Shrot you have your basic infantry unit with two types of weapons, animal as well as machine powered cavalry units, transports and tanks. Along with a few more types that you will unlock later on. The setting of the game might be sci-fi but the units sure look more rundown and based on very old designs. The buildings too, so the lore of the game is a bit of a mixed bag.
These units can gain veterancy status, getting a star icon next to their HP bar, as the game tracks their kill score and awards them with veterancy after a certain number of kills. You can directly command all of these units, put them into groups, and give them orders to attack a certain area or defend it.
One old school element of RTS games you will find here, is the fog of war which once dispelled stays that way. There is no gray fog of war where you don’t have units to see with. You can see the whole map, but to see enemy units on the minimap you have to construct a radar station.
As for the base building part, your HQ and water tank are the starting buildings, there is no construction unit and the two resources are money, gained from harvesting vegetation named hops, and water pumped from pools of mud found across the map. There is also no uniformed building menu, and you have to choose which building to construct after clicking on the HQ, while some advanced buildings have their own set of building options. This is honestly one part I didn’t like, and I wish the available buildings were in the same construction menu.
Now those pools of mud require you to deploy the mobile pumping station right next to them, using the specialized vehicle you get at the start and can construct more off in a separate building. At first water is the resource necessary for new base building construction while later more advanced units also require it.
The first few simple units only require money however. Which you gain as your tractors from the agriculture cooperative building harvest hops, the only visible green vegetation and transport it to the building for processing.
