AN ABSOLUTE DISAPPOINTMENT! The Story of the McLaren MP4/16 (2001)

In 2000, McLaren narrowly lost the title to Ferrari in what was round 3, or 2 if you exclude 1999, of the Schumacher vs Hakkinen years, and Ferrari broke their 21 year duck.

So for 2001 it was expected that McLaren would bounce back and we'd have another big fight on our hands between Michael Schumacher and the only man he feared: Mika Hakkinen. But the car was a disappointment, and as time went on, Mika became disillusioned with the car and the sport.

Was it his injuries from 1995 catching up with him? Did an early crash in Australia make him reconsider his stance on the sport since his son had just been born? Or did the constant breakdowns and bad luck sap his love of racing away? That's for you to decide.
