AMAZING Island In The Middle Of The Lake - Janitzio Michoacan | Human Documentary

Janitzio, a small island in the middle of a lake that is a place to live for thousands people. Janitzio Island located in northwestern region of Michoacán Mexico. This is the largest of the five islands in Lake Pátzcuaro. Janitzio in Purépecha language means "maize flower".

This place that initially grew as a military defense base. but over time, it transformed into an amazing settlement. Jose Maria Morelos, a general and hero of Mexican independence, used Janitzio Island as a military base to fight the Spanish invaders. The large statue of Jose Maria Morelos located here is an important symbol of the historical heritage of the Mexican independence struggle. Historically, this group of islands used to protect the Purépecha people during the Spanish invasion.
