Yami (病み) means to be sick or to have problems mentally. Also a homophone of darkness (闇).

Bokukko (ボクっ娘) is a girl who uses Boku as their 1st person pronoun. Boku has a masculine connotation so it’s rare to hear girls use it. Why a female would use boku varies but I translated this to “tomboy” to match Ayaneru’s reason.

Bokukko is a trope you sometimes see in anime and manga, typically used to either emphasized boyishness but also a lack of gender identity, inhumanity, or unusual life circumstances. Examples include Ayu from Kanon, Yotsugi from the Monogatari series, Kino from Kino’s Journey, Yuki from SAO, and recently Shirahi from Amagami-san.
