This Vedhagiriswarar temple is one of the 276 thevara padal Petra sthalam. Thondai mandala 28th thevara padal Petra sthalam. At the hill top is a temple for lord Shiva, assuming the title Vedagiriswarar, meaning the protector of vedas. A conch is born in the theertha once in 12 years. In the town there is a Bhaktavatsaleswarar temple .
