The Alstom trams in Tours have the ability to run without catenary through the city centre.
Power is picked up from a “third rail” in the centre of the track, which is only energized in sections, that are totally under the tram, ensuring the public are not electrocuted!
Trams change from pantograph to “under-floor” power at the Gare du Tours tram stop.
The 7 section Alstom trams have a very narrow but high appearance, with a modern stainless steel look.
Trams are of the Alstom Citadis 402 type. Filmed 26 September 2014
