This week is extra special for all of us as we celebrate Mumma and Papa's 48th Marriage Anniversary. As we remember the years gone by, Papa expresses his deepest feelings with a few lines of a Poem which he dedicates for Mumma, who he would lovingly call Rita. Usually a man of few words, however, Papa, I feel is blessed with a quality of fine thought and a deep, captivating narration. As a young girl I would sit and listen to him with rapt attention, thinking to myself, "How can someone express so beautifully?"

दो दिन जो ख़ुशी के पाए थे
क्या कहें वह कैसे बीतें हैं
जो साथ हमारा दे न सके
हम नाम पे उनके जीतें हैं |

तन्हाई बहारों से मिल कर
जब उनकी याद दिलाती है
उम्मीद के कच्चे धागों से
ज़ख्मों को अपने सीते हैं |

ऐ दूर कहीं जा सावन
क्यों ठंडी आग लगता है
अब लाएं कहाँ से कम आंसूं
नैनों के सरोवर रीतें हैं |

We love to sit down together, a tradition started by Mumma, and exchange poetic expressions and the multi-layered interpretations a couplet may hold. Of course, there also have to be unlimited rounds of Chai to go along :)

Even though Mumma is not physically present with us, our hearts and our lives are full of the love and care she has abundantly showered on us all. Her presence continues in our lives though the form may have changed. We celebrate with gratitude all those moments when we were all together, we celebrate her life, we celebrate unconditional acceptance, we celebrate commitment, above all we celebrate LOVE.
