06AUG22. Santa Maria Speedway CA. California dirt track fans rejoice and pack the house for the first race in over a year at this fabled and historic venue.
Citing lease issues the track shuttered in 2021 with its future all but doomed and thus joining the ever growing ranks of defunct speedways in the Golden Sate.
Fans and drivers were delighted to hear the joint is re-opening and showed their support by selling out the stands and packing the pits with 31 USAC/ CRA 410 non-wing sprints including a stout field of Lightning Sprints, B-mods and Dwarf cars.
Racing was fierce all night culminating with Brody Roa taking the final checkers piloting Jason May's 360 powered machine.
Tempers flared yet again between Damion Gardner and Chase Johnson who have a bit of history together.
Doing battle for 3rd position on lap nine saw the two getting tangled up in turn three collecting Austin Williams.
Austin had nowhere to go drilling Chase Johnson hard in the t-bone and ending on his lid.
Austin's night was done but both the Demon and Johnson were able to re-start Tail End Charlie.
With a jubilant Roa saluting the crowd in victory lane Damion and Chase came to a halt in turn one to exchange matters of opinion regarding the evenings events.
Next week sees the return of the USAC Western States Midgets to Santa Maria.
