Archies live-action reunion "Jingle Jangle" (1990)

The Archies become real-life characters in the 1990 TV movie "Return to Riverdale." Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Jughead Jones, and Reggie Mantle come to life as well as Big Ethel and Principal Waldo Weatherbee. It's an interesting attempt to adapt the comic strip characters, imaging them as adults 15 years after their high school graduation.

In this clip, you'll see Archie in a confrontational moment with his fiancee, torn by his feelings for old high school sweethearts Betty & Veronica. There's a big moment where the Archies reunite on stage, doing an somewhat awkward rendition of "Jingle Jangle."

Neither Ron Dante or Toni Wine, the original vocalists for the Archies, are singing in this reunion, and the band doesn't sound anything at all like the recordings produced by Don Kirshner.

I was tickled to see the use of music by the Replacements in his movie, as Jughead dances to "I'll Be You." It would have been more interesting if Paul Westerberg and the rest of the Replacements would have joined the Archies that night, but that would have been a different movie entirely.
